Ben Franklin and the supreme ruler of the gods Zeus face off in Jason Heuser’s new historical mash up. 11” x 17” and 24” x 36” prints are now available at his Etsy store. (Full Size)

In 1752 before Ben Franklin invented Pizza, Gameboy, the iPad2 or Mexican food he was contemplating how to conquer electricity. Being the genius he was, he decided go get it at its source, this being Zeus. Strapping himself to a kite, and equipping some homemade lightning claws he ascended through the clouds and into the realm of the Gods to battle it out with Zeus. This is a painting capturing the exact moment the battle started.

VVVVVV VVVVVV VVVVVV VVVVVV VVVVVV was a very interesting game due to its simple gameplay and the fact that it called back to old gaming.  The simple color scheme also helped the game seem old fashioned and enjoyable in a retro sense.

The games on Blurst were pretty fun. I played the game Splume for probably much longer than necessary.  It was a simple bubble-bobble type game that has the player shooting colored paint bubbles at matching color bubbles to pop them in groups of 3.  Each level was thought out and fairly interesting, sometimes introducing new gameplay mechanics while making the player revisit the basics at the same time.

Psychosomnium was actually a fun little game. The game mechanics were fairly interesting and had you playing through a dream-like sequence and the puzzles lend themselves to that idea.  The game was really fun even though the game had me playing a few times learning the challenges as I went.  The ending however was a little underwhelming.

Super Faith Fighter was a interesting little fighter that was a bit difficult for me.  I’m horrible at fighting games so it took me a few playthroughs to understand the real message of the game.  As you fight, the world around the different gods becomes more and more destroyed.  This shows the message of religious fighting causes death and destruction subtly.

Lost in Static was an interesting platforming game due to everything being in static.  With all the static it strained my eyes a bunch to find my character sometimes and made the game a bit harder than it probably was.

Don’t Look Back seemed to be one of those memory games that makes you replay and memorize where all the gaps are as you play.  After playing it a bunch and even making a list of the gaps in the play-through, I gave up due to difficulty.

Bars of Black and White was pretty fun in its idea. The game idea of being stuck in a room and trying to get out is always fun to me.  Also the Portal-like twist that was there once you got out was a very neat addition.  Finally, the hand drawn art style helped the immersion of the game by making you feel alone and simplistic.

Passage was an interesting game due to the limit on forward progression. The progression of playing and progressing also showed changes on the characters. As you progress you see the characters age. Also interesting was the fact that there were some actions in the game that you could do with just one character and others that required you to have both there. The music is really simple but meaning full at the same time.
